Inspection, Testing & Certification

There are many reasons why you could need an electrical test or inspection on your property or electrical items. It could be for insurance purposes, landlord’s inspection, change of use, ownership or even just for your own peace of mind. No matter what the reason, our team of highly trained staff are capable of providing full electrical testing and inspections of any type for all our domestic customers.

All electrical systems deteriorate with age and use so it is important that they are maintained regularly to ensure that the safety of people around the system is not at risk. Properties should have electrical installations certified regularly to ensure the safety of the electrical system. A domestic electrical installation condition report, formerly known as a periodic inspection, will reveal potential hazards within the tested installation, as well as identify any defective work whilst checking all the fixed wiring.

Landlords hold the responsibility to ensure that the property that is being rented is fit for purpose. This includes the electrical wiring. A domestic electrical installation condition report (for landlords) is required either every time the property changes tenancy or every 5 years, whichever is sooner. This ensures that the tenant has not changed or damaged the electrical system in any way.

Homeowners often call in a contractor to ensure that their home is tested prior to the property being placed on the market. If electrical problems or risks are identified, MK Wired supplies free quotations for major work so that the buyer and vendor are clear about the extent of the problem. The cost than then be accurately used in further negotiation, helping all parties to reach a swift and fair conclusion.
Homeowners and businesses are recommended to have an electrical inspection every 5 years.

Our experienced technicians are able to carry out the following test and inspection services:

  • Electrical Installation certificates
  • Part P Certifications
  • Domestic electrical installation condition reports (periodic inspection)
  • Minor works installation certificates
  • Visual condition reports

Outbuildings & Garden lighting / power

Whether for security purposes or simply to enhance the aesthetics of your home or garden exterior, there are many reasons why you might require outdoor lighting and power at your property.

However, outdoor lighting and power still falls under Part P of the Building Regulations law which requires that electrics are installed by a certified electrician to the latest IEE Wiring Regulations. For example, every cable, wire, socket, appliance and light used outdoors has to be protected by an RCD (Residual Current Device). An RCD is a fast-acting safety trip switch that reduces the risk of a fatal electric shock by instantly cutting off the power should anything happens to make power leak to earth. Any external power supply should also be installed with appropriate weather proof outdoor fittings.

Our qualified, approved, and experienced domestic electricians can supply and install outdoor lighting and power systems to the legally required standards for:

  • Lighting Security
  • Ponds and water features
  • Garden Sheds/Workshops/Man-Caves/She-Sheds
  • Waterproof sockets
  • Outdoor entertainment systems
  • Spas, saunas and hot tubs

Electrical vehicle charging

Are you looking to invest in an electric vehicle? Or perhaps, you have recently purchased an electric car? If so, then thinking about how to charge it is a top priority for you. To make the most of your electric vehicle you need power!

Electric cars are a great modern and eco-friendly alternative to petrol or diesel cars and vehicles. Electric cars come with a wealth of benefits for the environment, including emitting fewer emissions, lowering your carbon footprint and they are cheaper to run and maintain. However, electric cars do require an electric charging port; they need to be charged regularly in order to operate.

That’s where MK Wired Ltd can help, we specialise in electric car charger installations. We can provide and install electric car charging ports to domestic and commercial properties in and around the Milton Keynes area.

Fault Finding & Repair

Electrical faults are a health and safety hazard and could be putting your life in danger by risk of electrocution and electrical fire. We can help with fault finding in your property, whether it’s a blown bulb, faulty wiring or power shortage, MK Wired has the expertise to assist you.

Electrical maintenance is the upkeep and preservation of equipment and systems that supply electricity to your home. It’s necessary to keep your electrical equipment maintained to ensure maximum safety and efficiency.

Electric Heating / Heating Controls

Domestic electrical heating is another alternative to gas and oil heating. It’s clean and very low maintenance. New electrical heating products are on the market which use less electricity and are more controllable. Why not give us a call to discuss your needs? New controls for heaters now make them as easy to control as gas fired heating systems.
At MK Wired we install all types of electrical heaters including storage heaters, panel heaters, under floor heating, electric towel rails.

We also install, service and maintain central heating control systems, including fault diagnosis for S, Y plan systems. MK Wired operatives have great experience and a deep knowledge of:

  • The principle functionality of system components on a heating system
  • Understanding and utilising manufacturer’s heating system wiring guides
  • Practical wiring application for a 2 port valve (S plan) system
  • Practical wiring application for a 3 port valve (Y plan) system
  • Commissioning systems including electrical safety checks and certification
  • Diagnosis and rectification of system faults testing

  • We can install a variety of lighting in all manner of fittings including:

  • Outside Lights

Loft conversions & Extensions

It is almost certain that if you are considering an extension or loft conversion that you will require additional power and lighting. It might be that power and lighting can be supplied via existing circuits or it could be that a new consumer unit is required.

Additional lighting is likely to be an important aspect of any extensions. We are able to advise you on the most suitable lighting design for the space. You may want to consider up lighting or light washing on walls to make spaces appear larger.

Sockets are the usual part of any electrical installation that people think of. Whilst it may seem obvious, choosing the locations of the sockets within your extension can sometimes feel a little confusing. If you have a clear idea of what you intend to use your new space for, this will help you decide on socket placement. We can offer advice on general placement, however this really depends on your own personal requirements.

Complete or Partial Rewire

Whether you are homeowner, landlord or tenant, we can carry out complete rewires on homes of any size, style and age. Rewires may be needed for a number of reasons including ageing or dated wiring, or if there’s a fault with your lighting or mains sockets. We’ll carry out a full inspection and survey and provide a full and honest quote for carrying out the rewire.

When is Rewiring Necessary?
If a property hasn’t been rewired in the last 25-30 years, it will probably need upgrading, whether partially or fully, to ensure it complies with current safety standards. Given the sheer volume of electrical devices used in modern households compared to the 1980s and 90s, the existing wiring might be under strain from a high level of electricity usage, and could potentially be dangerous.

Fuse board Change

With all the electricity channelling through it, the Fuse Board is responsible for the
safe distribution of electricity in your home. Out-dated Fuse Boards are less effective at
protecting from electrical faults, making them very dangerous.

Signs that you should have your Fuse Board inspected or replaced:

  • More than 20 years old
  • Not fitted with an RCD
  • There are blank plates missing, leaving live parts exposed
  • Is constructed of wood or plastic, this is a huge fire risk and should be acted upon
  • Your fuses keep blowing, tripping
  • Signs of any burnt connections or casing
